Hey, you. Need a hug? 🤗
Or perhaps, more accurately, a hygge.
That is the golden word this Halloween season, especially if you publish books on Amazon KDP or sell printables on Etsy.
But first, what exactly does “hygge” mean?
hyg·ge/ˈho͞oɡə,ˈho͝oɡə/a quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture).
So, basically, a chill, laid-back, easy-going vibe.
I can get behind that.
But there’s a bigger reason why you’ll want to reach out and hygge someone. 😉
While browsing Amazon, I came across many new books with this theme that are absolutely killing it.
Like this one, which has sold over 480 copies in less than a week.
Or, this one that earns an average of $5,299 a month.
But let’s not stop there…
Look at this one, earning an average of $1,287-$1,580 a month, or this simple book earning $819+ a month.
Finally, (though there are dozens of other examples I could provide), there’s this one, which has already earned $438 in the short time it has been online.
Okay, so now that we have a theme to work with, let’s take a closer look at the niche to determine what other elements or characteristics we need to ensure become part of our own books and printables.
As you probably know, the best way to maximize exposure and sales is to model your book based on what’s already selling rather than reinvent the wheel.
Unfortunately, you don’t get brownie points for being overly unique. If your book doesn’t fit the market, it’ll end up in Amazon’s Lost and Found.
You need to align every part of your book (or printable) to what has proven to sell.
That doesn’t mean outright copying people. We frown at copycats around here. Instead, somewhat loosely, base your cover, title, and overall aesthetic on what is popular and widely used by the front-page indie publishers.
Draw inspiration from them. Use the top-selling books in a niche as a spark for your creativity, not a template for imitation.
Customers are already accustomed to searching Amazon and Etsy based on certain criteria, such as colors, font styles, and so on. Make it easier for them to find you and identify that you have what they’re looking for.
For example, take a look at the screenshot below. This is just one page of results on Amazon for hygge inspired coloring books.
As you can see, there’s a pretty specific theme that stands out: earthy tones on the covers, larger fonts (often white with a black outline), and minimalist graphics. The words “Bold” and “Easy” frequently appear.
That’s what you want to remember when designing your covers.
But I digress. Let’s get back to our research.
Here are a few things worth noting:
Average Page Count: It seems to sit somewhere between 50-80 with the most common being 88 pages. Nice and short. It shouldn’t take us long to create a few of these books while the theme is hot.
Average Price: $7.99
Keywords: I fired up Publisher Rocket and took a deep dive into the best keywords.
Here’s what I found:
- Hygge Vibes Coloring Book
- Hygge Place Coloring
- Fuzzy Hygge Coloring Book
- Bold and Easy Hygge
- Hygge Inspired Designs
- Cozy Hygge Pages
- Bold and Easy Coloring Book with Warm and Hygge-Inspired Designs for Relaxation (great sub-title)
- Cozy Autumn
- Easy Fall Hygge Inspired Designs
Tip: Use these throughout your entire listing without repeating them. For example, use one keyword in your title, another in your sub-title, a few in your listing itself, and the rest in the back end.
Happy creating!

Thanks, Kate. I did not know about this particular niche. I know about bold and easy, but hygge is new to me!
