Anyone who knows me knows that I’m obsessed with niche research. It’s part of my morning routine while having my first cup of coffee. If I miss a day, it bothers me. #niche-nerd
It’s my version of being a gym rat. Except way more fun. And there are snacks.
Just a few of months ago, I found a niche with very low competition and an average monthly income of $16,000. I went to work creating a few books for that market, and in the first 42 days, I earned over $11,534.
Some days, my niche obsession really pays off.
I have a feeling today is one of those days.
There’s a niche that fits most of my criteria:
- It has several top-sellers on the first two pages instead of being dominated by a single publisher.
- The majority of top sellers are self-published authors. In this case, 10/16 on the first page.
- Competition is relatively low, though even in so-called saturated markets there are still golden nuggets to be found.
- I also usually look for 4-5 books under 100k BSR (even better if under 80k).
If I’m looking for evergreen vs trending ones, I also look into whether it has a long history of generating sales.
In this case, it does.
Some of the books have been around 6-7 years, yet are still generating thousands of dollars in monthly sales.
Sales history shows the books peak in December, with the lowest monthly sales in September.
Considering the niche, I wasn’t surprised by the Christmas sales, but I was surprised by September being the lowest earning month.

This one has been around for more than 6 years and still earns an average of $1,404 a month.
Now, let’s take a look at some newer listings…
This one is just over a year old (at the time of this writing) and earns an average of $1,237 monthly.
And this one is a year old and earns an average of $6,872 monthly.
There’s this one that earns $65-83 per day and is also independently published.
Creating these types of books used to be very time-consuming and, therefore, out of the reach of most people. But today, with the power of AI at our fingertips, we can easily use a tool like ChatGPT to generate the facts and riddles for us.
I would then analyze the book covers, looking for common themes. You’ll want to design yours so it fits in.
Some people make the mistake of thinking their cover should be radically different so it stands out, but my 10+ years of experience in publishing has shown me that the closer your cover aligns with the bestsellers, the better.

The average price of books in this niche is a bit higher, resting at $10.04, with the highest average price of $14.49.
